Castor & Pollux: The Fighting Twins (Myth Men , No 8)
Published in Paperback by Scholastic (December, 1997)
Authors: Laura Geringer and Peter Bollinger
Average review score:

This series taught my son how to read
My middle son was about seven and having a lot of trouble learning how to read when we bought one of the books in this series at a book fair. The words aren't easy, but, since it's a comic book format, he could understand what was going on without knowing all the vocabulary. I tell you, he read the first one over and over, till he must have known it by heart.

We had always read to him, and he liked other books (Dr. Seuss, etc.), but we had to force him to read them on his own. This series he loved enough to really break through and develop that curl-up-somewhere-quiet-and-read habit, and since then we've just watched his smoke.

The illustrations are very vivid and realistic, and the stories taken very seriously (unlike the silly Disney-type versions), which children appreciate more. I would recommend this book for kids up to even 11 or 12.

Like they say, every child can be a reader if you just find the subject that he's interested in. For my son, this -- and, I have to admit, Archie comics -- did the trick.

The book ''Bulfinch's Mythology'' contains historic legends
This book is wonderful. It's just the kind of book I like ; it's mysterious , contains a lot of information and it's about myths in which people actually believed in the past.My favourite part is the Greek mythology. It's about gods , heroes and all kinds of monsters. It's also fun to make a dictionary of the names that I find so that next time when I see the same name in another book I can just look in my dictionary and remind myself the meening of the word. This is the kind of a book for people who like to read about mystery and advanture.

Painting As an Art (A W Mellon Lectures in the Fine Arts, 1984, Bollinger Series 35:33)
Published in Hardcover by Princeton Univ Pr (December, 1987)
Authors: Richard Wollheim and Bollingen Foundation Collection
Average review score:

Philosophical/Scholarly in the extreme, but rewarding
This book was very heavy going, but the ideas presented were worth it.
I found many new ideas among the lectures.

Classic must read about painting
Painting as Art by Richard Wollheim (Princeton University Press) provides the first sustained discussion of the complex of perceptions, design, pigments, biography, social history, and lived experience that becomes the experience of a painting as a work of art. Wollheim is well conversant with the philosophical issues while bringing a depth and expertise to the appreciation of the art and craft of painting within both broad historical contexts and the minutiae of a particular artist and this unique painting. So that what he says about any painting becomes a phantasmagoria of informed facts and conjectures that is a marvel approaching Keats' truth, beauty; beauty, truth. Wollheim's interpretations are intrepid corrections of received wisdom and well-argued virtuoso interpretations. His scientist's appreciation of the subtle effects of perception blends well with an informed style; not an easy read, but one likely to educate one's sensibilities anew.

Theseus: Hero of the Maze (Myth Men Guardians of the Legend, No 5)
Published in Paperback by Scholastic (August, 1997)
Authors: Laura Geringer and Peter Bollinger
Average review score:

Theseus, a book that all children should have
Theseus, Hero of the maze is a very fast book. Besides with allthe battles it's impossible not to be. But I must warn parents thereare some very violent scenes. Hope you enjoyed it as much as me

Motivates your beginning reader
One of my sons had a lot of trouble with beginning reading. How laboriously we taught him his letters, then sounds, then short words! But then we found the Myth Men series. He read these books over and over -- and they have some big words! It's a comic book format, so he could pick up cues from the pictures. This series (and Archie comics, actually) got him over the reading hump, he moved on to text without pictures, and last year he won an award for most books read at his school!

Hardwood Floors: Laying, Sanding and Finishing
Published in Paperback by Taunton Press (December, 1990)
Author: Don Bollinger

Learn how to --- read this book
I've done three rooms so far and saved a bundle. Will end up paying about 2.75 a square foot for 5.25 inch red oak planks. Looks great, don't believe it would have come out as well without the book.

Used for installing heart pine floors
Great book. Covers all you need from actually installing the floor to the final coat of finish. I'm a first timer, but installed and finished my pine floors and saved about $7000.

I'm now planning to install ceramic tile for first time and hope to find book on this subject as good as Don Bollinger's book.

really a "must read"
If you're planning to install or refinish wood floors, you really should read this book. Installing wood flooring is definitely something a determined beginner can do, but there are some pitfalls along the way. This book will help you avoid them. There's also a companion video that I highly recommend. The time and expense of buying and reading/watching these materials will be returned many times over by avoiding mistakes.

I used the book and video to help prepare myself for my first DIY floor installation, and everything went extremely well. I also had some coaching from a local installer, which I highly recommend. He had me practice on an 8' x 8' square before doing anything on the actual floor. The more you can learn, the easier it will all be and the better the final results. In my case, the results were really quite astonishing - I had many, many comments and compliments, and more than one person mentioned that my work was better than the "professional" work in their own house. That's an advantage of doing it yourself - you can take the time to do it right.

American Admiralty Bureau's guide to seaman's rights and legal remedies
Published in Unknown Binding by Marine Education Textbooks ()
Author: R. F. Bollinger
Average review score:

Every Seaman Should Have This Book
While much has been written on admiralty law in this century, virtually none of it has been written for seamen. The last book that I know of written expressly for seamen about their rights was called, I think, "A SEAMAN'S FRIEND" by Richard Henry Dana, the guy who wrote "TWO YEARS BEFORE THE MAST". That last book was written in the 1870s. This one explains your rights in modern times in simple language. It also explains how to work with a contingency lawyer and some serious thoughts about when and when not to go to law over your rights. While the average seaman may not be interested in citations to statutes and discussions of cases, these are provided in a separate section labeled "For the Seaman's Lawyer". The finincial and personal costs of litigation are frankly discussed. With fewer and fewer American seamen being represented by unions this is a vital reference that every American seaman should have. There is only one vital right that is not discussed and that is the right to organize. Perhaps a union could approach the AAB with a special edition for distribution by unions with their own chapter on the right to organize. I checked with the distributor Marine Education Textbooks and the book is still very much in print. Ask Amazon.com for a special order rather than an out of print order.

Great intro to Greek Myths
My 6 1/2 year boy loves the Myth Men Guardians of the Legend books. They are a bit like reading a comic, and they have collector cards in the back. He loves the illustrations.

Bollinger on Bollinger Bands
Published in Digital by McGraw-Hill ()
Author: John G. Bollinger
Average review score:

Good, as far as it goes...
I have a lot of respect for John Bollinger and his approach to the market. This book does a better job of explaining Bollinger Bands than any other book I'm aware of.

That being said, this book is still rather light on useful content. Too much space is taken up with historical filler, and most of what's in here can be found on the Web if you're willing to do a little digging...

Good book for beginners
This is an interesting and easy to read book. It provides the reader with an in-depth explanation of Bollinger Bands and its interpretation and application. The book expands a bit more on how to apply the bands to trading strategies, but it falls short on a more detailed trading system with the bands. For instance, stop-loss, entry, exit, ect. It is a book about the study of an indicator, and that's about it. Nonetheless, it is worth reading!

Unfortunately, the book fails to provide a more detailed explanation on the most interesting aspects of the bands: The squeeze. The squeeze of the bands itself does not tell the trader too much, except that the price action is bound for a strong move. However, it is possible to combine other indicators so to have a solid idea which way the move is going to occur.

Some New Good Idea...But Not Enough...
I've bought this famouse author's book with a lot of expectation. And then, I've been inspired several new idea from the book. Since I've been learned about the Bollinger Bands, I've expected to get a lot of New and Powerful idea on this book, but not much... However I found some New idea like that price reaches the peak when lower band reverses its direction, and I'm likely to read the price action more accurately and easily than ever before. Only with this idea, the book is worth buying.

Recommended.
